Components of a Learning Objective

Let us understand this with the help of an example

Let’s take a Class 2 English topic of pronouns. Assume the teacher used a pronoun chart to teach students how to appropriately replace nouns with pronouns.

What is an example of a learning objective which is effective for this lesson?

Here’s an example of an effective learning objective: “Students will use appropriate pronouns in place of nouns with the help of the pronoun chart.”

This Learning objective is effective because it clearly states the Performance (use appropriate pronouns in place of nouns), Condition (with the help of the pronoun chart) and Criteria (all the given nouns).

NOTE:
Just ‘finishing the syllabus does not mean students have learnt what they are expected to! Similarly, students memorising and reproducing answers to the questions at the end of the chapters in the textbook DOES NOT mean they have achieved the learning objectives. These questions can help them in building skills if they are allowed to do it on their own.
