Introduction to the Behaviour Management Cycle (BMC)

Which of these did you see? Did you see any others that we missed?

  1. There is a set of class rules which are on the classroom wall.
  2. They are simple and clear and the children know they are there.
  3. Miss Rupa reminded the children of the rules at the start of the lesson.
  4. The children owned the rules and Arjun was able to repeat them.
  5. Miss Rupa praised Arjun and showed that she had noticed that the children were all sitting up straight (rule 1) and commanded them.
  6. Miss Rupa was aware that Ruhi was chatting so she quietly reminded her of rule 2 without disrupting the lesson or the other children. She did it with a look and a gesture.
  7. When Ruhi started to chat again Miss Rupa took it to a new level and gave a verbal warning (telling Ruhi the consequence if she continued to chat).
  8. The consequence was proportionate to the misbehaviour and was something that Miss Rupa could follow through that would stop Ruhi from chatting.
