Introduction to the Behaviour Management Cycle (BMC)

Here are the three steps of BMC

  1. Step 1: Setting clear expectations so that students know what is expected of them during a particular activity or in class.
  2. Step 2: Reinforcing positive behaviour so that students are acknowledged and praised when they display desirable behaviour.
  3. Step 3: Correcting off-task behaviour so that students are corrected immediately when they move away from expected behaviour.

How does this cycle help teachers?

  1. Teachers can focus on instruction and learning rather than having to deal with bad behaviour
  2. There is a shared responsibility in the classroom and most importantly
  3. Class is managed well while maintaining an overall positive environment which is most conducive to learning
