What do learners already know?

In this course, we will mainly focus on pedagogical sequencing. So what really is it and why is it important?

What and why do we need to think about pedagogical sequencing?

Pedagogical Sequencing is the process of organizing lesson(s), objectives, concepts focused on one or more related learning objectives, which will be taught one after the other. It refers to the relationship among different topics of your subject/course/artifact, in terms of conceptual linkages and order of teaching.

Pedagogical sequencing helps us in two aspects: the Pre-requisite Knowledge and the Sequence of concepts.

  • Each artefact/concept is logically build on what has been previously studied and lead naturally to a subsequent concept/information.
  • Sequence helps learners stay on task and focus on one step at a time.
  • It also heps content developers to uderstand what their audience already should know and then build on the same.
